Concerto competition
Lauren Deutsch, Chair
The winner of the Concerto Competition will solo with the San Fernando Valley Chamber Orchestra with conductor James Domine.
Rules and Guidelines:
The Concerto Competition is now open to students studying with teachers who are active members of local MTAC Branches.
Winners will perform on the first concert of the Fall season.
The deadline for entry is approximately one month before the date of the competition. For exact dates of the competition and entry deadline please refer to the branch calendar.
There are two divisions (9th grade and below and 10-12th grade), and the judges may choose two winners.
Entry fee is $100 per student.
Maximum time for each performance is 15 minutes with tuttis cut. Cadenzas must be performed.
Students must provide their own accompanist.
An original copy of the score should be provided for the judges.
The orchestra score and parts must be readily available. The teachers must research the matter with the help of the conductor to prevent disqualification of a winner due to parts being unavailable for the winning piece.
Teachers will be informed of the winners the evening or morning after the competition is held.
Winners must submit biographies for the program to the conductor within two weeks of winning the competition.
Winning pieces from the previous year cannot be used for the competition. It’s the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that.
